The GMT-Master II 116710LN model was released in 2007 and featured a number of changes to the original GMT model that was first seen in 1954. The 40mm stainless steel case was fitted with a Rolex cerachrom ceramic bezel insert which is highly scratch resistant. The dial is protected by a scratch resistant sapphire crystal.  The stainless steel Oyster bracelet with fold over Oysterlock safety clasp has a three link design with a polished and brushed finish. The GMT hand changed colour to green from red with the introduction of this 116710LN model. The GMT hand originates from the desire by frequent travellers to calculate the time in two different time zones. The unique look of the 24 hour bezel ring defines the GMT models as well as being practical for travellers, making it easy to calculate different time zones. From 1982, with the introduction of a new movement fitted to the GMT Master-II the hour hand was able to be set independently of the other hands, making the using and setting of the watch even easier. This model also has the functionality to be used as a compass on a sunny day! When the small hour hand is pointed towards the sun, whilst being held flat, the 24 hour hand will point to the north. This GMT- Master II combines functionality and robustness with instantly recognisable aesthetic features to form a classic and desirable wristwatch.
